About Us

In 2012, the BBGC started its Summer Cricket Program, which was organized and run by Sham Chotoo and Ram Ragoo. The program was very well received by kids and parents alike. This early success encouraged us to continue the summer cricket program, which has already doubled in size. In 2013, the BBGC participated in the inaugural Maryland Youth Cricket Association tournament, which is the first state cricket tournament for kids. We had two teams in the tournament. Our B Team made it to the finals, and our A Team player, Tyler Chotoo, scored the most runs in the tournament. In 2014, the MYCA divided kids by age, and the BBGC 11U team was defeated in the finals by Germantown Kids Cricket Club. In 2014, the BBGC also started the BEST Cricket League to give elementary school kids the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game. This effort was also organized and run by Sham Chotoo and Ram Ragoo. The BBGC formed a partnership with Prince Georges County Public Schools (PGCPS) to facilitate the event. The United States Youth Cricket Association (USYCA) donated 10 cricket sets to the program and continues to donate cricket set to any school. Cricket teams were formed from the various schools, and the schools played against each other in the BEST Cricket

League. Heather Hills Elementary School was crowned the first Champion in the inaugural tournament. Principals, PE teachers, and parents were able to see firsthand the benefits of cricket for their students. The first year’s participating schools included: Whitehall, Heather Hills, Rockledge, Yorktown, Kenilworth, Grace Christian, and St Pius X. In 2015, we have a total of 18 schools: 11 from Bowie and 7 from the Greenbelt/College Park area.
